The richness of the choral music oeuvre of the Moravian composer Leoš Janáček is not least a consequence of his own biography. His works were frequently composed to create Performance material for the various choirs that he directed in the course of his life. There are also clear signs of a deep interest in the folk music traditions of his homeland. Kačena divoká (The Wild Duck), originally a folk song, is the lament of a wild duck who has been shot and wounded and mourns the fate of her ducklings. The elegiac tone that underlies Janáček's moving and poignant choral piece is created by the insistent character of the melodic line and harmonics that alternate between major and minor. This edition contains singable English and German lyrics, too.
