Sung with expressive freedom, the famous, melancholy Scottish parting song is introduced by the soprano, who is soon joined by the softly entering remaining voices. From this beginning, a touching choral piece unfolds – at times homophonic, at times intricately woven – that is sure to become a staple in many choirs’ repertoires as a spectacular finale for concerts and social gatherings. With this atmospheric arrangement, Moritz Schönauer successfully impressed the jury at the “Volkslied trifft Moderne” (Folk Song Meets Modernity) arranging competition hosted by the German Association of Choral Directors (FDC).
