Gustav Jenner, the only composition student of Johannes Brahms and a friend of him, dealt artistically with folk song and early music throughout his life. An atmospheric testimony to this is the well singable arrangement of Joseph Dearest, Joseph Mine, which achieves a beautiful effect with its alternation of solo and choir as well as the echo effects in the piano/organ accompaniment and is an enrichment for every Advent and Christmas concert. The present edition also contains singable English lyrics by Neville Stuart Talbot (1879-1943).
