Christopher Marlowe's poem Come, Live with Me, also known as “The Passionate Shepherd to His Love,” provides an ideal template for a madrigal. Pavel Brochin has set it to music in precisely this style – with a lively melody, strophic form and - tongue in cheek - even with the “obligatory” “fa-la-la” refrain. In his musical language, he uses elements from vocal pop and jazz, thus creating a modern madrigal that enriches the repertoire of large choirs and small vocal ensembles alike.
Together with the other two choral pieces Shall I Compare and Love Is Not a Feeling, it forms the finale of a small cycle that can be performed under the title Three Love Songs based on Texts from Classical English Poetry.
