These choral pieces Tre madrigali/Three madrigals op. 20 based on secular texts take on an important role in Raffaele Casimiri’s oeuvre, seeing as the composer and musicologist otherwise focused entirely on church music. A romantic profession of love, a scene of nature with a full range of onomatopoeic effects and the description, rich in contrasts, of a winter evening as it could unfold, with the pelting rain outside and the cheerful company of dancers inside, are encapsulated in three musical pictures. This piece of rediscovered choral music stands out due to its great detail, ingenuity and highly romantic tonal language combined with a skillful polyphonic compositional technique. The present edition contains the original Italian lyrics and new singable English lyrics.
