Jubilate is a cheerful echo game, a friendly competition in canon whereby two or four soloists or groups confront, challenge and animate each other. The music is inspired by the mijwiz, a double flute from the Middle East that works with circular breathing and accompanies dances such as the dabke. The piece can be sung literally, but also offers adventurous singers room for melismata and other improvised embellishments.
