“The story of the Exodus has long been, for me, a symbol of transition – from stillness to movement, from fear to trust. It speaks of people leaving behind what they know, not yet certain where the path will lead. In Exodus, I wanted to make that journey audible: the darkness before the step, the pressure of pursuit, the stillness before the sea – and finally the opening, the moment of release. The two organs represent opposing yet interdependent forces: resistance and hope, earth and breath. Their dialogue creates a space in which motion – and thus freedom – can begin. The premiere took place at Munich Cathedral, but the piece is written for any setting where two organs or two performers share one instrument – as a musical reminder that freedom always begins with a single step.”
