Hugo Salus (1866–1929) describes in the eponymous poem (Dreamy City Evening) the city winding down for the evening, in which the lyrical self settles in a park and surrenders to nature and the encroaching night. There is no longer any trace of anonymity, fear and the dissolution of the individual in a large crowd. Instead, being alone in nature has a relaxing and calming effect. The music is characterized by warm timbres and peaceful movement. Gentle dissonances and aleatoric elements make the last sounds and the receding warmth of the day become audible in the big city. At the climax of the piece the lyrical self is taken up in the deep blue of the starry night sky and gets lost in it. Finally, these impressions reverberate in the echo of the city in the evening. Edition in German.
