This solemn, yet at the same time joyfully radiant choral hymn can ring out not only at Christmastime but also in religious services and on celebratory occasions at any time throughout the cycle of the church year. It can be sung a cappella or optionally with either organ accompaniment - with English or German lyrics (Machet die Tore weit).
