With his multilayered text Alone and the many questions that he poses in them, Thorsten Weber tackles the issue of living together as partners, and in so doing takes up a subject that matters to each and every one of us. Michael Aschauer’s atmospheric music takes account of every facet of the English and German lyrics while at the same time proving itself to be highly practicable: where necessary, the piano accompaniment functions as a support for the choir, while at other points it is able to unfold in an inspired manner. The short solo passages can be performed without difficulty by individual members of the choir, who otherwise remain members of their respective voice groups. A highly melodious, immediately captivating choral composition, which, not least because of the diversity of its tone colours resulting from the interspersing of piano interludes and solos, presents an exceptionally varied picture, inviting us to dream and reflect!
