The motet Pater noster, which was composed for The Hilliard Ensemble, captivates the audience through the variety within its choral arrangement. Again and again, the different combinations of voices succeed in creating new tonal colour. The composition is based on the Gregorian model of the paternoster cantilena from the liturgy of the Mass, to which polyphonic sections have been added. Chordal calls at the corner sections and in the middle mean that the motet can be classified as a rondo. A vivid and powerful choral piece for religious services and sacred concerts.
