Two Advent motets are concealed in Martin Stampfl's powerful composition Ecce virgo concipiet: While at the beginning the soprano soloist recounts through the choir's colorful soundscapes Isaiah's prophecy of the Virgin expecting a child, the piece finds its dynamic climax in the rhythmically concise setting of the 24th psalm Tollite portas (Lift up your gates). A final Alleluia recaptures the sound material of the preceding parts, whereby the various texts blend into a new whole.
