Ever since its hugely acclaimed first Performance on 16th December 1893 in Carnegie Hall in New York the Largo from Antonín Dvořák’s Symphony No. 9 in E minor op. 95 From the New World has inspired musicians worldwide to the most diverse adaptations. Even in Czechia alone dozens of choral arrangements of this Largo circulate and also Domov můj is part of this century-old tradition. Although never confirmed by himself it is believed that in his Largo Dvořák – then director of the National Conservatory of Music of America – has set to music his desire for his native Bohemia. With his choir setting Wouter Tukker wanted to give words and voice to that longing. With Czech, English (Homeland Mine) and German lyrics (Heimat mein).
