Mention of the idea of Marian Vespers inevitably calls to mind the composition by Claudio Monteverdi. However, this CD offers impressive musical interpretations of these powerful texts by internationally renowned present-day composers (for example Javier Busto, Ola Gjeilo and Franz M. Herzog, and also first recordings by Michael Ostrzyga and Sebastian Schwab). These works are presented side by side with two choral pieces from the 16th and 17th centuries, thus providing a fascinating Marian Vespers “of our times”, given subtly differentiated interpretation by the Bavarian Youth Choir, conducted by Gerd Guglhör. This is a very special auditory experience!
