In 1917 the British composer Frederick Delius composed a pair of choral pieces with this title. The first of the two wordless compositions presented here, often performed by itself, is characterized by a highly individual, emotional and almost impressionistic tonal language. Motifs and harmonies blend into a singular tonal atmosphere that elicits a continuous flow of sound sequences by means of cleverly chosen staggered breathing pauses. This choral work, composed in France, Delius' adopted homeland, impresses with its dreamy idyllic character.
