The St. Cecilia Mass (1855) is the work by which Charles Gounod is best remembered as a church composer (as well as the creator of Faust, Romeo and Juliet, etc.) and his setting of the Sanctus is its finest movement. After a solo section sung by Soprano or Tenor, the whole choir enters (TTBB), accompanied by the piano or organ.
