In his composition Ritornar!, dedicated to the Horizons Project Choir, Pieter Bezuidenhout draws on excerpts from Dante Alighieri's Divine Comedy. The 34th song depicts the journey through a long canyon to the surface. The sky can be seen from afar through a small arch. The journey leads back to the stars – back to the light. Echo-like, reverberant inserts over dense soundscapes evoke the feeling of a sparse narrowness from which it is vital to escape and at the same time convey a certain sense of the distance from which the stars regard us. An expressive, dynamically charged composition for mixed choir and solo voices.
