The French piano virtuoso and composer Charles Valentin Alkan (1813–1888) wrote his Alleluia op. 25 as a piece for piano solo that is powerful and chordal yet at the same time not difficult to perform. Michael Aschauer has retained the original version of this acoustically stunning piano piece and has overlayed it with extensive melodic lines – similar to what Charles Gounod in his Ave Maria did with J.S. Bach's Prelude in C. In this way he has created a sonorous hymn of praise to God in which all four parts have the chance to impressively stand out.
