This CD of the series New Compositions for Chamber Orchestra combines new sacred works that have been composed on the two main themes “paradise” and “hope” for the church domain and whose intense, artistic debate reveals many interconnections. Besides of the Tyrolean Chamber Orchestra InnStrumenti under the direction of Gerhard Sammer, the Innsbruck Chamber Choir (Martin Lindenthal), Vocappella Innsbruck (Bernhard Sieberer) as well as the vocal ensemble Stimmen (Voices, Thomas Kranebitter) can be heard.
In his composition KAIN, schöner Planet (CAIN, beautiful planet) Manuel de Roo embarks on the search for hope for humanity, also incorporating surreal aspects and, in reference to Abel’s murder by Cain, poses the question: “Can there still be hope?” Josef Haller refers to hope in Naenia as a motive for the life-endangering decision to flee and establishes a connection to the current refugee issue. In narthex Hannes Kerschbaumer underscores the inspiration in Christian and Jewish interpretations of paradise as a dynamic place of reconciliation in the transition from this world to the hereafter. Sebastian Themessl illuminates in his setting of the six-part hymn by St. Ambrose of Milan with the title Et nox paradise in its various perspectives. Finally, Christian Gamper focuses in the symphonic sketch Das Paradies im Tod (Paradise in Death) for women’s choir and chamber orchestra on the connection between paradise and death and expresses the ritual of bidding farewell with an emotive sound.
