This collection relies heavily on the music of Stephen Foster (1826-64) and features three of the best known - Some Folks, Camptown Races and Oh! Susanna! They have been freely arranged with an emphasis on rhythmic drive and interesting (but playable!) piano/keyboard parts. Polly Wolly Doodle was mot written by Foster but by that even more prolific composer Anonymous. Another 19th century songwriter associated with minstrel shows was Dan Emmett. He wrote what is probably the best-known song to have emerged from minstrelsy. Dixie tells the story of the freed black slave nostalgic for the Dixieland of his birth. The Flexi Choir series by Gwyn Arch offers different choir combinations (SA/SAA/SAT/SAB/SATB) in one choir score and a manageable piano or keyboard accompaniment integrated in every score.

  • Oh! Susanna
  • Camptown Races
  • Dixie
  • Some Folks
