Uģis Prauliņš was born in Riga, Latvia. He studied, among other things, conducting and education at the Music Academy of his home town. He completed his composition studies with Jānis Ivanovs and Ģederts Ramans. Prauliņš' work is multi-faceted. He worked from 1981 to 1986 at Latvian Broadcasting as a sound engineer, composed for Latvian television and worked as a producer for AMI International in London and for the movie studio Cinevilla in Jurmala, Latvia. His Missa Rigensis was recorded by the Choir of Trinity College, Cambridge and has since been performed worldwide.
