This mystical choral composition by Frederic Mattes lends the more than 700-year-old hymn by Thomas Aquinas a very distinctive tonal depth. Beginning gently and contemplatively, a field of tension unfolds from rough sounds and brightly shimmering moments – an ambivalent state between darkness and light. Ultimately, this work comes to a hopeful, redemptive end in the final Amen. An impressive journey for singers and audience alike.
